Jacobs Entertainment Advances Next Steps For Downtown Youth Soccer Fields And Redevelopment Efforts
RENO, Nev. (December 11, 2025) – Jacobs Entertainment is submitting permits to begin construction of four youth soccer fields, the first planned flat fields in J Resort’s Reno Neon Line District. The first four fields will be built on land currently owned by Jacobs Entertainment, with two of the fields accommodating 7×7 soccer games and two larger fields that will allow for 9×9 games and 7×7 games as well as youth lacrosse.
“These new fields are going to help continue to transform downtown Reno,” said Jonathan Boulware, vice president of Nevada operations for Jacobs Entertainment. “We’re very excited to help bring youth sports to downtown Reno.”
The Downtown Reno Amateur Sports Association (DRASA) and J Resort are currently working with Reno Apex to finalize the 2026 travel youth soccer schedule with tournaments over 10 weeks, with plans to expand that to 12–14 weekends in 2027. The fields will all have perimeter fencing, as well as 20-foot-high nets that will be raised during games.
“In addition to providing much needed capacity for youth sports, we believe these fields will drive significant revenue to local hotels, restaurants and other entertainment experiences that Reno is already known for,” added Boulware. “Travel youth sports is a multi-billion-dollar industry; the average youth sports family spends nearly $1,500 a year on hotels and tournaments. These new fields will help us capture some of that revenue here in Reno.”
In addition to the construction permits for the proposed youth sports fields, Jacobs has completed its cost analysis for renovation of the Bonanza Inn. Given the recent increases in construction costs, renovation is no longer a financially viable pathway forward. As a result, Jacobs Entertainment is filing a demolition permit to allow for future construction with a larger scope than initially planned. The timeline for future construction is still to be determined.
Jacobs Entertainment maintains its commitment to providing affordable workforce housing in downtown, with 100% of the Gibson Apartments and 100% of Renova Flats providing 68 affordable units. In combination with the market-rate units available at 245 North Arlington, Jacobs Entertainment has completed 125 new units of housing in downtown Reno, with an additional 65 units in the predevelopment phase to be built on behalf of the Reno Housing Authority.
